Harvest Heydays

Harvest Heyday Finds

With the approach of autumn, festivals celebrating the traditional harvest season are a sure find all through the Pocono Mountains. A virtual cornucopia of color lends a satisfying backdrop to these gatherings occurring over the weeks to come.

A wealth of choices have been available with an impressive blend of activities to suite different tastes that include a focus on the environment, along with, admiration for historic farmsteads, skilled craftsmanship and community interaction.

Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm offers the perfect example of Pocono splendor celebrating their Harvest Festival’s 40th Anniversary with plans themed Celebrating Penn’s Woods over the weekend of October 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day rain or shine. Admission of $10 for adults and children age 3-12 at $5, includes a glimpse into our early European Settlers’ heritage.

This popular 19th Century farmstead offers folk entertainment, horse drawn wagon rides, craft demos and more. Watch for French and Indian War military re-enacted by the New Jersey Frontier Guard trekking through; while members of the 142nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Co. G portray the drills and everyday life of soldiers.

Deb Dipasquale of Quiet Valley notes, “This is our non-profit, farm museum’s largest fundraiser of the year,” calling it “Truly old fashion fun at its best with lots of interesting things for folks of all ages to see and do.”

Whether it’s the familiarity of days gone by or the feel of community unity that’s preferred, a selection of fall fun continues full force with October ushering in a ton of festivals. Be sure to check out our Plan Today Play Tomorrow segment for a tasty tidbit of more things to come!
